Detcon1 will be the host of the 2014 Golden Duck Award presentation. Since 1992, SuperConDuckTivity has been presenting the Golden Duck Awards to recognize excellence in the field of Children’s Science Fiction. The winners are announced at DucKon, a Chicago-area convention run by SuperConDuckTivity, with the awards presented annually at either the Worldcon or the NASFIC. Past winners of the Golden Duck Awards have included Jack Prelutsky, Suzanne Collins, Cory Doctorow, M.T. Anderson, Eoin Colfer, and Garth Nix.

In recognition of the growing interest in and demand for young adult speculative fiction, and our belief that the growth of this market is important to the long term outlook for the field as a whole, Detcon1 has created a Member’s Choice award to accompany the Golden Ducks.
