Fanzine Lounge

Fanzines, Amusements, and Tigers, Oh My!

Michigan was the home of the first Slan Shack, a welcoming place where fans passing through Battle Creek could catch up on news and gossip as well as spinning a few new myths and legends while they were there.

The Fanzine Lounge at Detcon1 aims to do more of the same in its sociable space in the exhibit hall. We’ll have fanzines on exhibit, of course, and others you can take home (the first one’s free, don’cha know?) Makers may enjoy helping us publish a “60-minute one-shot” and there will be postcards a plenty on hand because it’s never too late to send a letter of comment. Or, in our case, a postcard of comment.

If all this sounds like a foreign language (believe me, it did when I was just getting into fandom), definitions and further information are available at fancyclopedia.org. Visit efanzines.com to acquaint yourself with fanzines currently being published as well as well as some from days gone by. Or just drop by the fanzine lounge and ask what it’s all about, including the Tigers. Everyone is welcome!

Fanzine lounge hosts, tiger wranglers, and other helpers needed. Please write to Geri Sullivan at fanzine-lounge@detcon1.org.
