Kids & Youth Programming

kids_crafts.jpgAre you a family with young people ages 5-17? If so, then Detcon1 has programming for your youth!

Your youth programming team is making every effort to have “something for everyone” for the children and teenagers that attend Detcon1. We are planning activities that explore science, art, costuming, gaming, literature, creative play, as well as movement, music and theatre. We hope to offer:

For kids:

  • KookieKlatches – authors and guest readers join the kids to enjoy cookies and a drink while exploring a favorite story or a new book
  • KinderFilks – youth-oriented concerts by drop-in musicians
  • Costuming panels & themed crafts (making light sabers, unicorn horns, or monster masks)
  • Kidscience!

For teens:

  • Author Readings and Q&A
  • Writing workshops to help budding authors and songwriters,
  • Crafting panels – including origami, making survival bracelets and chain mail
  • Costuming panels
  • Gaming – including D&D as well as other card and board games
  • Teenscience!

When you bring your youth to Detcon1, they will begin friendships that will last a lifetime and will continue a journey in fandom. The program will be a safe place for them to enjoy Detcon1 on their level while you participate in the convention at your leisure. There will be volunteers from around the world that are experts at working with children, many of whom are teachers or teachers at heart.
